Wildlife problems, to some, are a minor inconvenience. For others, it can be stressful and upsetting. Regardless of the situation, Ranger Animal Control can help. We have been providing Nuisance Wildlife Control since 1996 in New Brunswick and have helped our long list of satisfied customers to solve their wildlife problems. The solution for each problem can vary from situation to situation. Hopefully, our list of methods below will give you a better idea of solutions to your problem.

 

Species We Handle:

Raccoons, Skunks, Groundhogs, Squirrels, Chipmunks, Beaver, Fox, Mice & Rats, Birds & Bats & Coyotes. We also provide control for other species not listed that require permits from the Department of Natural Resources.

Poison or Chemicals:

Ranger Animal Control does not use poisons or chemicals for the control of any wildlife. There are far to many risks to both humans and other animals.

Live Trapping:

Live Trapping and removal of the animal is often the most common method of wildlife control employed, especially if the animal is located inside a residence, building or business. We have live cage traps of various sizes and designs for specific species and situations as well as the experience and knowledge to use them. We use specialized baits and attractants specifically formulated for the target species of wildlife we are trapping. Ranger Animal Control checks all traps every twenty-four hours and depending on species, we may check several times a day.

Conventional Methods:

In some cases, live trapping is simply not a viable option due to location, species of wildlife, regulations or other circumstances. In those cases, we employ only humane, safe and legal methods.

 

Exclusion:

After the animal or animals have been removed, steps should be taken to prevent other animals from entering through the same access points. Screening or covering access points such as vents, chimneys, soffitts, under sheds or any other points where wildlife can gain entry can stop the problem from re-occurring. We can advise you on what needs to be done or we can provide the service for you. In some cases, no trapping is required and the problem can be solved simply by installing one way doors and sealing the access point once the animal has vacated the problem area.

Problem Beaver Control:

Beaver can be fun and educational to watch and a unique learning experience in nature. However, in some locations, they can be very damaging and not uncommonly, can be a safety concern in a number of ways. Beaver populations are high in New Brunswick and they have adapted very well to living in close proximity to humans. However, this has also caused problems and safety issues.

 

Beavers damming up a culvert may seem harmless enough, but often times causes flooding and severe damage to roadways. There have been many cases where the flooding caused has washed away the shoulder of the road and in some cases, has left a deep trench entirely across the road. Unsuspecting motorists have actually driven into the washed out areas and have been seriously injured. In other cases, flooding caused by beavers has contaminated drinking water sources for not only a few individuals but entire municipalities and has caused health issues. Other beaver problems may not be a safety issue but a matter of damage control. There are cases where beavers have by either flooding or actually cutting down the trees have caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage.

 

We are not trying to give the impression that all beaver are bad. We just want to inform you that there are cases where it is in the best interest to remove the beaver from the site.

 

Ranger Animal Control is one of the few companies in the area that provides Beaver Control Services. It can be hard and dirty work, therefore, many companies shy away from it. Wildlife Relocation:

Many of our clients ask about relocating the wildlife that we capture. The fact is, provincial regulations prohibit an NWCO from relocating many species of nuisance wildlife. Raccoons, skunks, ground hogs, foxes etc are required by law to be euthanized. Any Wildlife or Pest Control Operator that tells you they will relocate these species is either being dishonest with you, or, not following provincial regulations.

 

The reason for the regulations is to prevent the spread of wildlife diseases through relocation. In 2000, New Brunswick confirmed that it had discovered several raccoons and skunks in southern NB that tested positive for Rabies. By 2002, there had been 64 positive cases in the St. Stephen - McAdam area. Because of concerns that the rabies virus could be spread to other areas of the province if NWCOs were permitted to relocate those species most at risk, provincial legislation was enacted to prohibit this practice.

 

Relocation, in many cases is not a wise decision even if it was legal. When an animal is moved from one location to new area, it is now competing with other wildlife for food and shelter. Often times, the animals have no choice but to fight to survive, often resulting in death to one or more of the animals. Wildlife trapped in and around highly populated areas have great difficulty in finding food sources and shelter in the wild. Taking them out of the city and releasing them in the country can be a death sentence due to starvation on exposure.

 

Euthanasia can be upsetting to some of our clients. However, we want to be up front and honest with you about animal relocation and the reasons why we don't offer to relocate in many cases.
